The working principle of elliptic gear flowmeter is that liquid pushes a pair of elliptic gears to rotate. The volume of each cavity is a fixed volume; The speed of the gear is drawn out, the sensor sends out synchronous pulse count, and the rotation of the elliptic gear is transmitted to the counter through the magnetic seal coupling and transmission deceleration mechanism to directly indicate the total flow through the flowmeter. If the transmitter is attached and the electrical display instrument is equipped, the remote transmission can only be instantaneous flow or cumulative flow.

The flow measurement has nothing to do with the flow state of the fluid, because the elliptical gear flowmeter is measured by the pressure head of the measured medium pushing the elliptical gear to rotate. The larger the viscosity of the medium, the smaller the leakage amount from the gear and measurement space clearance leakage, so the larger the adhesive skin of the nuclear measurement medium, the smaller the leakage error, the more advantageous to the measurement. The elliptical gear flowmeter has high measuring accuracy and is suitable for measuring the flow rate of medium with high viscosity, but it is not suitable for the fluid containing solid particles (solid particles will stick the gear so that the flow rate cannot be measured). If the measured liquid medium is mixed with gas, it will also cause measurement error. Elliptic gear flowmeter is a volumetric flowmeter, used for precise continuous or intermittent measurement of liquid flow in the pipeline or instantaneous flow. It is especially suitable for flow measurement of heavy oil, polyvinyl alcohol, resin and other media with high viscosity.

Elliptic gear flowmeters should be cleaned before installation. If the liquid contains solid particles, a filter must be installed upstream of the pipe. Exhaust device should be installed if gas is included. The elliptical gear flowmeter has no requirement on the front and rear straight pipe sections. It can be installed horizontally or vertically. When installing, the elliptical gear axis of the flowmeter should be parallel to the ground.

According to the requirements of the correct installation of elliptical gear flow meter, when used to ensure adequate accuracy, usually the accuracy of the cumulative value up to 0.5 level, is a more accurate flow meter. However, if the flow rate of the measured medium is too small, the influence of the leakage error of the instrument will be prominent, and the measurement accuracy cannot be guaranteed. Therefore, elliptic gear flowmeters of different models and specifications have an allowable value for the minimum flow, and the measurement accuracy can be guaranteed only when the actual measured flow is greater than the allowable value of the lower limit flow. Secondly, the elliptic gear flowmeter should be used to pay attention to the temperature of the medium under test should not be too high, otherwise it will not only increase the measurement error, but also make the gear may be stuck. For this purpose, the elliptical gear flow meter is used within the temperature range specified by the instrument. After long-term use of elliptic gear flow meter, the internal gear will be corroded and worn, thus affecting the measurement accuracy. Therefore, regular attention should be paid to observation, and regularly removed for inspection, if conditions allow it is best to regularly calibrate.
